Allergy Care for Louisiana sufferers

Allergy Care for Louisiana Children, Adults and Seniors

Nearly 30% of the US population suffers from allergies. You may have inhalant allergies or food-based allergies. Some suffer seasonal allergy symptoms and others suffer year round.

In the spring, one may experience tree allergy symptoms. Grasses trigger symptoms in the summer, with weeds coming in late summer until freezing temperatures occur. Molds, dust mites, cats/dogs, and food can cause allergy problems any time of the year.

Allergy symptoms vary. The most common symptoms are congestion and nasal drainage with sneezing. Others are fatigue, itching, sore throat, and cough. While these symptoms can mimic a common cold, typically allergy will last longer than a cold (longer than a week or two), and can cause skin conditions such as hives and eczema. Chronic allergic rhinitis can also predispose one to recurrent sinus infections.

Intradermal skin testing and MQT test are performed to determine what a patient is allergic to and to obtain the adequate level of treatment. If immunotherapy is recommended, allergy shots are administered after testing and diagnosis are complete.
